Bob Woolmer murdered

The controversy surrounding Bob Woolmers death has continued. Last night it was announced that he was killed by strangalisation. Why was there no body guards? If there were then why did they not do their job? The circumstances of the Pakistan coach's death has cast a shadow over the World Cup.
No one cares at the moment about cricket. I believe though that its right to carry on with the World Cup. After all Bob would want it to go on and for people to remember him in the right way. What is important is that the Jamican police and Pakistan team and management co-operate and work together.
Yesterday it was confirmed that the police would talk with each Pakistan player for a one hour duration. This is to ensure that a thorough investigation takes place leaving no stone uncovered. Its so important that everyone associated with the team helps because Bob was a decent man who would do the same. Its the teams obligation and individuals responsibility to give whatever information they have to the authorities.
Its assumed that Bob Woolmer knew his killer. The fact is that he let the person(s) into the room. This should narrow down the search though Bob knew several hundred people. So could this be someone inside cricket or is it someone outside? Who would do such a horrible act? Obviously further investigations are taking place. At the moment its very difficult to lead to anything substantial as the pieces are put together. Its hoped that the killer owns up and its what any decent human being would do.

C'Mon commercial 2

Hey. This is my two best commercials. These puppets are so hard to find! At least i got one!!

week 1: World Cup 2007

It should have been a predictable week. It should have been easy for the big teams. It was, except Pakistan made a real mess of it. This is how the week went.

The 9th cricket World Cup begins.

Day 1: Tuesday 13th March 2007

West Indies open against Pakistan. Its a fantastic atmosphere. Pakistan won the toss and elected to field. Umar Gul finds Chris Gayles's bat and we're off and running. Contributions from Samuels (67), Sarwan (49), Lara (37) and a brisk 32 from Dwayne Smith. They totalled 241-9 from the 50 overs.

Pakistan are reduced to 39-3. Yousuf and Inzamam came together and put on 60. When both went out its was effectively over. Pakistan were bundled out for 187 all out. Losing by 54 runs.

Day 2: Wednesday 14th March 2007

Australia vs Scotland. Scitland won the toss and elected to bowl. Australia 334-6 including 113 by Ricky Ponting. Scotland reached 131 all out in 40.1 overs. Australia win by 203 runs.

Canada vs Kenya

Kenya won the toss and chose to bowl. Canada amassed 199 off 50 overs. Kenya reached the total with 7 overs to spare. Kenya win by 7 wickets.

Day 3: Thursday 15th March 2007

Bermuda Vs Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka win the toss and chose to bat. They amass 321 off 50 overs. In reply Bermuda are 78 all out off 24.4 overs. A Sri Lanka win by 243 runs.

Ireland vs Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe won the toss and chose to field. Ireland manage 221 off 50 overs with Bray making 115. In response Zimbabwe need 18 with 5 wickets in hand. It ends as a tie.

Day 4: Friday 16th March 2007

England Vs New Zealand. NZ chose to field. England stutter to 209-7 off 50 overs. NZ reach the target with 9 overs remaining. A NZ win by 6 wickets.

South Africa vs Netherlands. The dutch chose to field. SA amass 353 off 50 overs. Kallis made 128. Gibbs 72 off 40 balls including 6 sixes in an over off Van Bunge. Holland were bowled out for 132 in 40 overs.

Day 5: Saturday 17th March 2007

India vs Bangladesh. India chose to bat. Fantastic bowling limits the indians to 191 all out off 49.3 overs. Bangladesh reach the total with 9 nine balls to spare. A 5 wicket win.

Pakistan vs Ireland. Ireland chose to field. Pakistan are skittled out for 128 off 45.4 overs. Ireland reach a revised target of 128 with 32 balls remaining. A humilating defeat for Pakistan that sent them out. In four days they were out. Ireland winning meant they are into the super 8's.

Day 6: Sunday 18th March 2007

England vs Canada. Canada chose to field. England amass a competitive total of 279-6 off 50 overs. Canada batted out 50 overs managing 228-7. England must improve their bowling if they are to beat Kenya and reach the super 8's.

Australia vs Holland. Australia chose to bat. They amassed 358-5. Brad Hodge made 123 and Michael Clarke 93 not out. Holland faltered to 129 all out in 26.5 overs. A crushing 229 run defeat.

So Pakistan are out, India on the verge, Ireland through and Bangladesh with a shock win. Australia hammering the minnows and South Africa looking strong. England look unconvincing, New Zealand competitive and Sri Lanka in fine form. West Indies look great and with the crowd behind them could reach the final. Should be a good week 2. Who will go out next? Another big team? We shall see.

Finally the sad news that Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer had passed away. A turbulent week for Pakistan and a World Cup that has ended just like it began; a mess.

C'Mon commercial 1

Although not cricket. This is amazing. A fantastic commercial. C'Mon!!!!

R.I.P Bob Woolmer

Words can not describe my emotions as i learned yesterday that Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer had died. How ironic is it that in the space of 36 hours Pakistan cricket was changed forever.
Dumped out of the World Cup by lowly Ireland and then the coach is found dead on Sunday morning. Its tragic and sad.
Bob Woolmer was found laying in his hotel room on the morning of March 18 of a suspected heart attack. The man who brang stability to the side has now gone. Im sure that all Pakistan fans and fans in general will send their condolences to Woolmers family. Its a huge loss. Nobody expected it and thats what makes it so heartbreaking. He really was one of a kind.
Woolmer, arguably introduced laptops and the idea that it can be used to improve the teams performance. He would sit on the balcony with his glasses and analyse every ball. He was an inspirational coach and a talented batsman. The way that Woolmer approached the game was fantastic.
The way he handled the Darrel Hair situation last year is a prime example. He was professional and spoke openly how he felt. He stood by the Pakistan team through this scandal. Woolmer had to deal with Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammed Asif drugs case.
The last 9 months has been very challenging and obviously it took its affect on his health. Being Pakistan coach is probably the toughest job you have in cricket. The expectations are so high. Throw in various problems with drug scandals and team management and you have a recipe for disaster. Many coaches rarely stay in the post. It takes its toll on your health.
Woolmer has transformed Pakistan it must be said in his time and its a big hole to fill. Who would do a better job? Who would wont to?
I must end by saying that Bob Woolmer was a respected coach and more importantly person. Its a sad loss. It puts into perspective that a game is one thing and life is another. Im sure all fans send their condolences to his family. Thats where my thoughts are. Its not on the fact we are out of the tournament. Some things are just more important!
